In early 2021, top executives at Eversource Energy, a Connecticut-based utility service provider, approached me about hosting a live, virtual event for its employees.
The event, held over Airmeet, brought together employees from various locations and encouraged them to work in teams to kickstart a cultural transformation. The utility's first Sustainability Ideathon leveraged innovation thinking to transform Eversource into a sustainability leader.
Specifically, the Sustainability Ideathon aims to pave the road to business innovation by crowdsourcing ideas from employees. During the event, participants are challenged to open their minds, ask questions, view situations in new ways, brainstorm solutions, collaborate on a team idea, and ultimately pitch their idea to a panel of judges.
“We believe that addressing the impact of our carbon footprint will require innovative solutions,” said Jeffrey Kotkin, Eversource vice president. “That’s why we are collaborating with industry partners and engaging our employees to develop solutions.”
